Orthognathic Surgery

Orthodontist Bastrop

Orthognathic surgery is a surgical procedure that is performed to correct functional issues with breathing, chewing, and/or speaking due to a dental or skeletal irregularity. Also known as corrective jaw surgery, orthognathic surgery can have a significant impact on your quality of life.

Some of the conditions that may cause you to be referred for orthognathic surgery include:

  • difficulty biting or chewing
  • difficulty swallowing
  • chronic mouth breathing
  • protruding jaw
  • open bite
  • receding chin and lower jaw
  • facial injury
  • birth defect
  • inability to close lips together
  • excessively worn teeth

Your dentist and/or orthodontist will work in conjunction with our surgeon to determine whether orthognathic surgery is right for your needs. Depending on the specific issue, your treatment may require a combined set of procedures by your dentist and/or orthodontist as well as the surgery performed by our doctor.
